Photokeratitis is the medical terminology for sunburn of eyes. My name is Ryan Pound I had my eyes sunburned at a young age while surfboarding. At the time there was no way to protect my eyes while surfboarding. Unfortunately when the sun's glare reflects off the water, it reflects like a mirror. So, when you look at the glare in the water you are basically looking at the sun. Unfortunately, Photokeratitis causes permanent damage to our eyes. For me it caused redness that is permanent. Also, I have blue eyes, blue eyes are more sensitive. I didn't know this as a child. So, I was more prone to get Photokeratitis. Once I was diagnosed by an eye doctor, I started to think about how I can protect my eyes from the sun's damage. I created a pair of surfboarding sunglasses. They are designed to float for easy retrieval. I created the startup brand called Lit Eyewear. I offer sunglasses that are made from sustainable bamboo wood. This gives the sunglasses the properties needed to float. I also personally made sure that the lens will be best quality. They are all UV400 for the best protection for the sun's rays and polarized for the best protection for the glare. Please check them out. I believe a surfboarder's most essential surf gear is their sunglasses.
